Subdomain settings
How your hosting handles subdomains of your main domain (e.g. blog.yourdomain.com) is set on the Domains & SSL tab, in the Subdomain Configuration section.
Wildcard DNS status
Above the list of modes is an informational Wildcard DNS Status badge. It's read-only – it reports whether a wildcard (*.yourdomain.com) DNS record is currently active for the main domain. You don't turn it on manually: the panel creates or removes it automatically based on the mode you choose (see wildcard domains).
The six modes
- Disabled – subdomains are not handled; only the main domain works.
- Serve All to Main – every subdomain shows the same content as the main domain (
*.yourdomain.com=yourdomain.com). - Redirect All to Main – every subdomain redirects the browser to the main domain.
- Folder Based – a subdomain maps to a folder in your hosting:
blog.yourdomain.comserves/sub/blog/publicif that folder exists, otherwise/sub/blog. Create the folder via File Manager or FTP/SSH. After adding or renaming a folder the hosting needs to be reconfigured in the background for the new subdomain to activate – contact support if you're not sure this happened automatically. - Manual – you add subdomains yourself in the list below and give each one its own document root. Each manual subdomain gets its own web server block serving content from the document root you specify.
- Mixed – combines the previous two: subdomains not listed below are served folder-based (same as Folder Based mode); subdomains you add manually to the list are served from their own document root, same as Manual mode.
The manual subdomain list
In Manual and Mixed modes a list of the subdomains you've added is shown. The Add Subdomain button opens a form with a Subdomain Name field (e.g. blog) and an optional document root (leaving it empty makes the subdomain serve from the same document root as the main domain). You can edit or delete a subdomain at any time; adding, editing or deleting one triggers a background reconfiguration of the hosting that makes the subdomain available or removes it.
Saving the mode
Confirm your chosen mode with the Save Configuration button. Changing the mode triggers a background reconfiguration of the hosting, which reconfigures the web server and creates or removes the wildcard DNS record as needed.
