Connecting via FTP
FTP accounts let you transfer files to your hosting with an FTP client (e.g. FileZilla). They are completely separate from SSH access – they have their own usernames and passwords and are managed independently.
Encryption: explicit FTPS
The FTP server offers explicit FTPS (AUTH TLS) – your login and the files you transfer are encrypted with a certificate issued for the server's hostname (TLS 1.2 and above). That's why the FTP Connection Details card in the panel shows protocol FTPS and encryption TLS/SSL (Explicit) – select the same mode (explicit FTPS / FTP over TLS) in your FTP client so the connection is actually encrypted.
A plain (unencrypted) FTP login is still accepted too, for backward compatibility – TLS is not enforced automatically. We recommend always setting explicit FTPS in your client, or using SFTP over SSH instead of FTP (see below), which is always encrypted.
Creating an FTP account
In the customer panel, open the hosting detail, the Services tab, and the FTP Accounts card. The card only shows up when FTP is enabled for the hosting; your plan also caps the number of FTP accounts, shown right in the page header as created / allowed.
- Click Add FTP Account
- Enter the username prefix – the full login username will be
your-prefix.your-domain.sk - Keep the suggested random password or generate your own (save it – it can't be shown again once you leave the page)
- Set the home directory (defaults to
/var/www/html, can be changed to a subdirectory via the folder browser) - Choose permissions – read (download files, list directories) and/or write (upload, modify and delete files)
Connection details
The exact host and port for FTP are on the FTP Accounts card in the panel:
- Host – the hostname of the server your hosting runs on (the FTPS certificate is issued for this hostname), not your domain
- Port – different for every hosting, allocated individually, not the standard port 21
- Username – the full FTP account username including the domain, as it was created
The same details for each account are also shown by the View Connection Details button next to it in the list.
Editing, resetting the password and deleting
- Edit – change the home directory, permissions or password (the account username can't be changed)
- Reset Password – generates a new password and shows it right away
- Delete – the account is removed from the server immediately, access stops working right away
An encrypted alternative: SFTP over SSH
If your hosting has SSH enabled (see SSH Access), you can transfer files over SFTP instead of FTP – it runs over the same port as SSH, and the username and password (or SSH key) are the same ones you use for SSH access. Unlike FTP accounts, this connection is genuinely encrypted. In your FTP client (e.g. FileZilla, WinSCP), just select the SFTP protocol and enter the host, port and username from the SSH Access card in the Services tab.
Once connected via SSH/SFTP, your home directory also contains a symlink named after your domain that points straight to the web root (/var/www/html).
If you don't want to install an FTP client, you can manage the same files directly in the browser instead – see File Manager.
