Domains: registration, transfer, renewal and WHOIS

Ordering a new domain, transferring one to us, and renewing it all go through the same form in https://panel.cloudweb.sk. This page explains what each step does and what it needs from you.

Registering a new domain

Open Domains in the panel and click Register a domain. On the "Register, transfer or connect a domain" page, choose the Register a new domain operation, type the full name including the extension (e.g. example.sk), and pick the number of registration years (1–10). The form checks availability as you type; if the name is free it also shows an indicative price per year – the exact price for your domain and length is always shown on the order/checkout form that follows after clicking Continue to checkout.

Some extensions (e.g. .uk, .es, .au, .cat, .eus, .gal, .radio) require extra information for their registry – these fields appear automatically at checkout only when your domain needs them.

The name registered as the domain's holder is taken from your domain profile. For a .sk domain, the holder's name must match the owner named on the invoice.

Transferring a domain in

The same form also offers the Transfer in operation, for a domain you already own at another registrar. On the next checkout step you must enter the authorization code (EPP / auth-info) – the transfer cannot be submitted without it. Your current registrar issues this code, usually under a "Transfer domain" or "Auth-info code" section of its own administration.

Attaching a domain to a hosting, moving it, and detaching it

On the domain's page (Domains → (your domain)), the Hosting section shows which of your hostings currently serves the domain, or that it is not attached to any. It offers a dropdown of your other hostings and, depending on whether the domain is currently attached, an Attach domain or Move domain button.

Attaching or moving regenerates the hosting's configuration so it actually serves the domain, and issues it a new SSL certificate. The domain's existing DNS records are kept; on a move, only the address records (A/AAAA) that pointed at the old server's IP are automatically re-pointed at the new one – every other record is left untouched. Mailboxes belong to the domain, not the hosting, so attaching, moving or detaching never affects them.

The Detach from hosting button releases the domain from its hosting – it stays in your account as a standalone domain with its DNS zone and records, it just stops having a website served from it. If the domain is the primary domain of its hosting, moving or detaching it requires confirmation by typing the domain name back, since the hosting would otherwise lose the domain it is currently reachable on. A domain that is a subdomain created in the hosting's own settings, or one that has subdomains of its own, cannot be moved or detached this way – subdomains are managed in the hosting's settings. You also cannot attach or move a domain onto a hosting that has already reached the maximum number of domains its plan allows.

Renewal

You don't start a renewal by hand in the panel – about three weeks before expiry we automatically issue a proforma invoice for the next year's renewal. The invoice follows the Billing & autopay settings on the domain's detail page, under Domains → (your domain):

  • Autopay (Stripe on due date) – the amount is charged to your saved card on the invoice's due date.
  • Pay from credit – two days after the proforma invoice is issued, payment from your credit balance is tried first, before falling back to the card via Stripe.

Both options are on by default. Manage the autopay card under Payment methods. Paying the renewal proforma – via autopay, from credit, or manually, see paying invoices – is what actually renews the domain at the registrar, for the number of years the invoice was issued for.

Only one renewal invoice is issued per term – while one is still awaiting payment, another is not issued for the same period. Roughly 60, 30, 7, 3 and 1 day before a domain expires we also send an email reminder linking to the domain's management page (or to the hosting's domains, if the domain is attached to one).

Getting the authorization code to transfer OUT

If you want to move a domain from us to another registrar, the authorization code (EPP) is not shown to you in the panel – open a support ticket to have it generated and sent to you.

WHOIS privacy

On the domain's page, in the Domain Security section, the WHOIS Privacy toggle hides the holder's contact details from the public WHOIS database. Toggling it first tries to apply the change directly at the domain's registrar; if the registrar does not support it for that domain, the toggle shows an error message and the setting is left unchanged.

WHOIS lookup

The WHOIS Lookup button in the domain page's header shows the domain's current WHOIS record exactly as returned by the registry.

When registration fails

A failed registration is marked "Failed" in the domain list, and the domain's page shows the failure reason. You are not charged for a failed registration; next steps go through a support ticket, linked directly from that page.
